Across the UK, local Pride events are facing increasing financial pressure. Rising infrastructure costs, security requirements, medical provision, staging, insurance, licensing and supplier fees mean that running a safe, inclusive and professional Pride event is more challenging than ever before.
Recently, organisers of Tamworth Pride 2026 shared the heartbreaking news that their 2026 event has been postponed due to a lack of funding and sponsorship support. In their statement, they explained that despite months of hard work from volunteers and organisers, the financial reality meant the event simply could not go ahead this year.
That announcement is a reminder that community events like Pride do not just “happen.” They survive because communities support them.
At Walsall Pride 2026, we want to be open and transparent about why early ticket sales matter so much.
“It’s Only a £10 Ticket…” 🎟️
A lot of people understandably see a £10 ticket as just the cost of entry for a day out.
But in reality, that ticket helps fund almost every part of the event experience.
For every standard event ticket sold, the money goes towards essential event costs including:
🎤 Live entertainment and performers
🛡️ Security and safety teams
🚑 Medical cover and welfare provision
🔊 Sound, lighting and staging
🚧 Fencing, toilets and generators
📢 Marketing and promotion
👥 Staff, crew and volunteer support
📜 Licensing, insurance and compliance costs
💳 Ticketing fees and VAT
By the time all operational costs are paid, there is often very little remaining surplus for independent community events which isn't profit it is used to fund next years event.

Why Buying Early Matters 💖
Early ticket sales are absolutely vital for Pride events.
They allow organisers to:
Confirm suppliers and infrastructure
Secure entertainment and performers
Pay deposits on staging and equipment
Demonstrate event viability to sponsors and partners
Continue investing in safer and better experiences for attendees
Without strong early support, community events can struggle to move forward confidently.
Every ticket purchased helps show that the community believes in the event and wants it to succeed.
Pride Is More Than a Party 🌈
Pride events create safe spaces, visibility, celebration and community connection. They support local businesses, showcase local talent and bring people together from across the region.
Many Pride organisations, including ours, are volunteer-led and work year-round behind the scenes to make these events possible.
Supporting your local Pride is one of the most direct ways to help protect and grow LGBTQ+ community events for the future.
