In an inspiring display of allyship, over 10,000 cisgender women across the UK have united behind a powerful message: transphobia is not feminism. Their collective voice, expressed through the petition titled “Not In Our Name,” sends a clear and unwavering message—trans women are not a threat, and efforts to exclude them from womanhood are not done in the name of all women.
Organised by the group Not In Our Name (NION), the petition swiftly gained traction, now boasting over 13,000 signatures. It confronts the growing trend of using cis women's rights as a smokescreen for anti-trans agendas, particularly in politics and media. At its core, the message is simple: true feminism is inclusive.
“Trans Women Are Not the Threat”

The petition lays bare a harsh reality that many women know all too well—catcalling, workplace harassment, domestic abuse, and systemic discrimination. These experiences, the signatories argue, are overwhelmingly inflicted by cisgender men, not trans women.
By scapegoating trans individuals, particularly trans women, anti-trans rhetoric not only endangers the trans community but also distracts from the real and persistent threats cis women face every day. As the petition makes clear: “We know who harms us. It is not trans women.”
A Call Against Weaponized Feminism
This growing movement has also taken aim at politicians, lobby groups, and media outlets that claim to speak for all women while promoting exclusion and fear. The signatories of the petition are calling for an end to the misuse of feminism as a tool for marginalization, especially when it puts the most vulnerable—including trans women—at greater risk.
Data referenced in the campaign is harrowing: over 5,000 trans people have been murdered worldwide since 2008, and over 145,000 hate crimes were recorded in the UK between 2022 and 2023 alone. These numbers aren’t just statistics—they reflect lives lost, families shattered, and communities grieving.
True Feminism is Intersectional
What’s happening here is more than just a petition—it’s a movement. It's a declaration that feminism must be intersectional, inclusive, and actively protective of all marginalized genders. The Not In Our Name petition isn’t just a rejection of transphobia. It’s a demand for a future where solidarity, not suspicion, defines the relationship between cis and trans women.
This movement marks a turning point in public discourse. It proves that large numbers of cis women are willing to stand up and say: not in our name will you exclude, vilify, or harm our trans sisters.
